Biography

Ashley Mercer

Ashley was born and raised in Essex and is currently a postgraduate vocal student at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where he is a TCM Trust Scholar and studies with David Thomas.

He first started singing at school, performing both as part of the chapel choir and in numerous stage productions, and from there went on to join the National Youth Choir. He temporarily deviated into the world of sciences, completing a Master's degree in Physics in 2006 at King's College, London; whilst there he was a choral scholar with the chapel choir under David Trendell; and performed, directed and conducted for the Gilbert & Sullivan and musical theatre societies. A brief stint in the City followed, before he returned to his first love - singing - and he has never looked back.

Recent engagements have included Mr Kofner (The Consul) and Sarastro / 2nd Armed Man / Speaker (The Magic Flute) both for Trinity Laban, Captain Corcoran (H.M.S. Pinafore) and Bouncer (Cox and Box) both for the New London Opera Group, Spinelloccio (Gianni Schicchi, Fulham Opera), Daniel (These Things Happen, Jonathan Pease Productions) as well as performing in Exposure:Opera, the Royal Opera House's showcase for new works, as part of a joint venture between Trinity Laban and ROH2, and regular performances with the Trinity Laban Chamber Choir under Stephen Jackson. Future engagements include Dr Craven (Stephen McNeff's The Secret Garden) for Trinity Laban and workshopping Die Zauberflöte with renowned theatre company Complicite.
